Language Arts Triathlon 5-6

Summer Language Arts

In this course, students will build advanced grammar, vocabulary, and writing skills by solving engaging puzzles and competing in daily language arts challenges with their classmates. Through these daily activities, students will level-up their mastery of essential skills for reading and writing like a pro.

Each day of class includes time dedicated to each of three "events" that students will compete in during the Language Arts Triathlon on the final day of class:

  • Grammar: Students will investigate a grammar concept and use their new understanding to solve a daily puzzle. Concepts begin with essential skills for recognizing parts of speech and culminate in a deep analysis of sentence structure.
  • Vocabulary: Each day, students will gain skills for decoding advanced vocabulary as they explore etymology and word roots through engaging vocabulary puzzles.
  • Writing: Students will build their writing skills by advancing through a series of increasingly challenging tasks, from constructing clear sentences to writing a strong paragraph for an essay.

The final day of class is the Language Arts Triathlon, an engaging, collaborative competition where students will put their skills to the test in a battle of words! Through this event, students will measure their progress, both against themselves and in friendly competition with their classmates.

Note: To ensure students have the best experience, it is recommended that they do not read the course texts before class starts.

This two-week course meets Monday through Friday for three hours each day.

Space is very limited for our summer programs. Please do not wait until the last minute to enroll. If there are more than two weeks before the course starts, a $200 deposit will be due when enrolling, with the balance due two weeks before the course begins.

Our homeschooled son is extremely gifted in math and science.  He really feels at home at AoPS Academy.  Through coaching and personal attention at AoPS, he achieved a 5 in AP Calculus at 11 years old and a 4 in AP Statistics at 12.  He also achieved an 800 on SAT II math at 12 years old.  Our son feels very comfortable in the atmosphere of AoPS, where being gifted in math is not looked down on, but treated with respect.  He has truly found his peers at AoPS Academy.

AoPS Academy allows my son to be himself, learn that there are other kids well advanced in math, and gives him the confidence to know that it is OK to be great in math, and that other people will respect and value his ability.
