Math Beasts Camp 3

Summer Mathematics

This summer program is designed for students who will be in a third grade math class in the fall. Students who have just completed our 2nd Grade Mathematics course are ready for Math Beasts Camp 3. (Students are not required to take AoPS Academy Academic Year courses prior to enrolling in AoPS Academy summer programs.)

Each day of Math Beasts Camp 3 consists of a Problem Solving component and a Mathematical Exploration component. The Problem Solving component focuses on logical thinking while providing review of key math concepts. Students participate in a variety of math-related games and engage with a wide range of mathematical puzzles. Students also encounter a small taste of cryptography as we introduce reasoning and pattern-recognition strategies.

Our Mathematical Explorations are designed to introduce topics that most students don't encounter until much later in their schooling, and to equip students with general mathematical strategies that will be useful throughout their education. The Math Beasts 3 Mathematical Exploration inspires geometric mathematical discovery. Students develop spatial thinking skills and intuition for the importance of symmetry through drawing and interacting with interesting shapes like knots, spirals, and plane tilings.

Note: This course contains some content from the Math Beasts Camp 3-4 course that we offered in 2020. Students who took Math Beasts Camp 3-4 in 2020 will repeat some material if they take Math Beasts Camp 3 in 2021.

This two-week course meets Monday through Friday for three hours each day.

Space is very limited for our summer programs. Please do not wait until the last minute to enroll. If there are more than two weeks before the course starts, a $200 deposit will be due when enrolling, with the balance due two weeks before the course begins.

Summer Enrollment Deadlines: Summer Language Arts enrollment for each class closes one week before the class start date to allow time for pick up of course reading material. Summer Math enrollment for each class closes one day before the class starts.

"Our homeschooled son is extremely gifted in math and science.  He really feels at home at AoPS Academy.  Through coaching and personal attention at AoPS, he achieved a 5 in AP Calculus at 11 years old and a 4 in AP Statistics at 12.  He also achieved an 800 on SAT II math at 12 years old.  Our son feels very comfortable in the atmosphere of AoPS, where being gifted in math is not looked down on, but treated with respect.  He has truly found his peers at AoPS Academy.

AoPS Academy allows my son to be himself, learn that there are other kids well advanced in math, and gives him the confidence to know that it is OK to be great in math, and that other people will respect and value his ability."
